As his two-year-old daughter sits on his lap, William Powell, feeds his son sitting to his right.
Multitasking is a part of life for the 37-year-old.
He is the proud father of four children.
“Some days it’s hard, but it is worth it,” William says.
William’s family, including his girlfriend Brittany Turner, 27, snapped this photo at a DRU/Mondawmin Healthy Families (DRUM) Father’s Day Celebration in June 2017.
Their children are ages 1, 2, 5, and 8.
They joined DRUM on referral from Bmore for Healthy Babies when Brittany was pregnant with their five-year-old son.
William says he attends every DRUM Parent Support Group, including the weekly sessions on Wednesdays.
“They teach me more and more every time,” he says. “They’re helping me deal with my patience and teaching me how to interact with my kids.”
The professional chef says it was a struggle providing individualized attention to four children, but DRUM leaders encouraged him to reserve 20 minutes a day for each child to have their own special time with him.
“Before I was all confused and did not know what I was doing,” he says with a chuckle.
He says Father’s Day events and recognition are not important to him.
“All that doesn’t matter to me,” William explains. “I don’t ask for much because I’ve got a lot. I got them. I don’t need anything else.”
This is where we share the stories of the families we've been honored to help nurture over the years.
